Made to last. Made to age well.
Leather goods cut from thick, full-grain vegetable-tanned leather and finished by hand in the Ozarks, built to be used for years and to look the better for it.
Available now: laser-engraved state patches. More leather goods are on the bench.
Find your state
Fifty states. One patch each.
One patch for every state, laser-engraved into thick vegetable-tanned leather, then dyed and edge-burnished by hand. At 4 mm, it is roughly twice the thickness of a typical leather patch, and that depth lets the laser cut a deeper, bolder engraving than a thin patch can take. Shown here: Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Kansas, the four states the Ozarks reach into.
Three things we hold to.
One leather.
Full-grain, vegetable-tanned, and nothing else. It is the strongest leather for the job, and the only kind that improves with age instead of wearing out.
Finished by hand.
Cut, dyed, stitched and edge-burnished at the bench. Nothing is pressed out of a mold or sprayed with a finish that will peel.
Made to be used.
Carried, rained on, sat on, handed down. Our work is meant to look better in ten years than it does today, and to be worth repairing when the time comes.
Why vegetable-tanned?
Most leather made today is chrome-tanned: quick, soft and cheap. Vegetable tanning uses tree bark instead. It takes weeks, and it makes a firmer, stronger leather that engraves cleanly, burnishes to a glassy edge, and darkens into a patina the longer you carry it.
It costs more and it takes longer. It is the only leather we use.
